Bus. Luncheon February 2020

What does it take to run a successful business? The answer may surprise you!

Being an expert in a field does not mean you will be successful in operating that type of business.

Conversely, the lack of expertise does not mean you cannot have great success in that field of business.

This month we hear from Butch Carter, owner / operator of two Honest One Automotive Service Centers.

Find out how Butch leveraged a background of military service, pharmaceutical sales and corporate management to become a successful owner/operator of a national franchise.

Here is the twist, Butch's wide variety of experiences from military to the corporate world were unrelated to the auto repair business.

This is a case study on how important good business skills and marketing are to success regardless of the business and how fundamentals of entrepreneurship can be applied in areas you may not have expertise in.

Butch Carter is the owner of 2 locations of Honest-1 Auto Care.

His original location is here in East Cobb behind Trader’s Joe’s, and he and his wife opened a second location in Johns Creek in mid-2017.

Butch‘s background is not automotive.

He attended college on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and spent 4 years as an Intelligence Officer.

Most of his time was spent as the Chief Briefing Officer for the Eighth Air Force Commanding General, who was responsible for half of Strategic Air Command.

He also completed his MBA while on active duty. Following the Air Force Butch spent 25 years in various positions in the pharmaceutical industry.

His most recent positions included running the Canadian Commercial Operations for a small pharma company and Director of Sales for two specialty sales team.

Butch came across the Honest-1 Auto Care franchise in early 2013, was intrigued by the concept and opportunity and opened their shop here in East Cobb in November 2013.
